Tour of Nord East India
Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland
The Arunachal Pradesh is, among the Indian states of the Northeast, the northernmost and borders directly with China and Burma, today's Myanmar. For strategic or war reasons it has therefore long been closed to tourism and is today one of the wildest places in India and perhaps in Asia. Here the railway does not arrive, omnipresent in India, nor are there direct flights to this state. Semi-isolation has favoured the preservation of millenary traditions guarded by the tribals who still live here.
Day 01: Arrival in Calcutta
Upon arrival, meet with our staff for presentations. Later transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 02: Calcutta - Guwahati (with flight) Guwahati - Balipara (200 Kms and approx 5 hrs)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board the flight to Guwahati. Arrival in Guwahati and meeting with our representative. Arrival in Guwahati by plane and departure by car to Baliapara. Upon arrival, check in at Wild Masheer, the tea estate bungalow. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 03: Balipara - Ziro (250 Kms and approx 07-08 hrs)
After breakfast check-out from the hotel and departure for the beautiful Ziro Valley, surrounded by farms and pine and coniferous forests, and home of the Apatani tribe that inhabit the tropical forests of the central areas of Arunachal Pradesh. Upon arrival, check-in at the resort. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 04: Ziro
Full day dedicated to visiting the Apatani tribes: Hong, Dutta & Hari. In these villages we will visit the typical tribal houses attached to each other and we will be able to interact with the locals and photograph the tattooed elderly who still live a very traditional living. Visit to the farms of the tribe and the local market where you can get to know and bring this people closer through its customs and customs. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 05: Ziro / Itanagar (115 Kms and approx 05 hrs)
Full day dedicated to visiting the Apatani tribes: Hong, Dutta & Hari. Day 06: Itanagar - Majuli (160 Kms and about 5 or 6 hrs)
Breakfast and departure to the river where we will take the ferry to Majuli, the cultural capital of Assam and considered the largest river island in the world. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Visit of the village inhabited by the Mishing tribe and walk in the local market of Majuli. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 07: Majuli - Kaziranga National Park (1 hour by ferry + 120 kms and approx 3 hrs)
Breakfast and visit of the sattras (monasteries) of the island. Visit to the village where the traditional local masks are made. Guide to the river and crossed by ferry to Johat from where you continue to the Kazaringa national park: the reserve where the famous rhino with horns lives. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 08: Kaziranga National Park
Early morning safari on elephants, the best way to get closer to the spectacle and the charm of the wonderful life of the park. Return to the resort for breakfast. After breakfast visit to the village inhabited by the Mishing tribes and the center of orchids of Kazaringa. In the afternoon, jeep safaris in the western part of the park.
Day 09: Kazirana National Park - Kohima (240 Kms and approx 6/7 hrs)
After breakfast check-out from the hotel and departure to Kohima, the capital of the state of Nagaland and home of the Angami tribe. Upon arrival check in at the hotel. In the evening visit the local Kohima market. The picturesque town of Kohima is the land of the brave and daring, but at the same time harmless and genuine Naga tribes. Shrouded in the eastern Himalayas, Kohima is characterized by an absolute tranquility, a calm and serene atmosphere and a fresh and uncontaminated air that gives a warm welcome to the exhausted man from the pressing rhythms of the city. A typical Naga city that represents the exotic tribal culture of the north east and offers a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Kohima - day trip to Khonoma (20 Kms and approx 01 hrs)
Excursion to Khonoma, the green village. Khonoma is the village of the Angami warrior tribe known for its battles with England and for its dominant role in the struggles for claiming freedom for the Naga. In recent years, Khonoma has become famous for its conservation projects based on community and ecotourism initiatives. Return to Kohima. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: Kohima - day trip to Khonoma (20 Kms and 01 hrs)
Another excellent demonstration of the multi-faceted life of the Naga tribe is the village of Jakhama. Our walk to Jakhama will lead us to discover the rice fields and river coasts where we can see up close the traditional methods of fishing and agriculture of the Angami, carefully handed down from generation to generation. Walking through the village, we will stop to visit the traditional places of rural life such as styes, fishmongers and snail breeding. We will have a chance to witness closely the marks left on the walls of the houses, punctured by the bullets of the Second World War. If time permits visit to the World War II state museum. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 12: Kohima - Dhimapur (70 Kms and 02 ½ hrs) and Dhimapur - Calcutta
After breakfast check-out from the hotel and transfer to Dimapur airport to take the flight to Calcutta. Upon arrival in Delhi, boarding the flight to return home. (Beginning and / or possible tour term also from Delhi and you can stop one or two nights in Calcutta)
